If you want to print something out from Firefox next time, rather than just blindly clicking print, try hitting print preview. Print preview not only allows you to see extra blank pages you don’t need to print, it also gives you the option to scale documents. If two pages of your document can easily fit on one page, do it and save some paper!
Don’t just print!
Use print preview.
Can you fit two pages of that Mapquest printout onto one page???

I like to skip about in my hum-drum, little life with an air of joy and contentedness. But sometimes people can really get me down…
an all-too familiar sight…
no. please, NOOOOOOOOO!
….not Haydn’s ‘Nun beut die Flur’! People, doesn’t such a masterpiece deserve a little more respect than to be so casually tossed into the trash alongside your chewing gum and your scraps of dignity??
And THEN, as if that wasn’t traumatizing enough, my eyes catch sight of a hastily stashed pile of papers protruding from underneath the printer….
30 pages. A perfectly pristine article left at the printer.
Here are some suggestions, students, if you accidentally print out an article that you don’t need:
1. try offering it to some of your other classmates who may have not printed it yet
2. give it to the teacher as an extra copy in case someone forgets to bring it to class
3. staple it, and put it on the free table outside in the lobby because someone else who is interested might want to read it
[please feel free to offer any other suggestions!]

We’ve added a page about the characters in the comic.
(Evidently this post is very dry.)
Check out the page. Peace.

Sustainability Coordination Manager Diana Kayes agreed that the poster session was a very positive experience. Kayes says, “It put the word out about Rider and offered other schools ideas for what they could be doing, no matter how the small the step.”

Preliminary investigation revealed that an unidentified perpetrator was attempting to print some driving directions off of mapquest, leaving behind a disgraceful paper trail. Fortunately for us, the criminal wasn’t the sharpest pencil in the box. Their home address was printed on each of these sheets.
Below is a dramatization.
You laugh now, Perp…
…but paper waste is no laughing matter.

Devin has just made the official decree that all of the printers in the Performance Collection will be loaded primarily with scrap/reusable paper. From now on, new paper will only be loaded upon request. [And at that point, we may start to use a variety of shame tactics to help them see the consequences of their actions.]

I was recently made aware that Moore Library sends medical journals to aid doctors and nurses at work in Iraq. Recycling and helping the troops–definitely two awesome birds with one stone.
Here is an excerpt of the letter from Mark W. Burnett, M.D. from Camp Taji, Iraq:
The combination of the Hussein regime, pre-war sanctions and the current turmoil in Iraq has made it very difficult for physicians and dentists to stay even reasonably current on medical developments. When I have dropped off your donated books and journals I have been met with sheer amazement at how current the literature is–I wish that you all could be there to share these moments with me. I have found the medical professionals to be some of the most apolitical people I have met in Iraq–they really are role models for the society at large. I will never forget their courage as they often risk their lives just to hold meetings with coalition forces.
I love the simplicity of this program. No politics, no axes to grind, no hidden motives–just colleagues helping colleagues. I know that we all have many people asking for our help nowadays–I just appreciate the fact that you took the time to box up your books or journals and send them “over here.”
Medical and nursing books and journals are sent through a Global Village program to English-speaking clinicians. (Thanks to Pat Dawson at Moore Library for sending this information our way!)
Check out the article in Medscape for further information on these donations. (Since the website requires a password, I have included it below.)
